Everyone seems to always have an opinion about the things that don’t concern them. (Sometimes even I am guilty.) Some people want to dictate your life and put you down while at it. Even when you’re doing extremely well they don’t know how to be happy for you. And perhaps that is the problem; jealousy.
For instance, when I moved out of Philadelphia to go to a smaller town, but closer to a bigger city (New York), instead of being happy for me, a family member gave me their unsolicited opinion about my new residence. They could’ve said something along the line of, “Well, you’re quite the adventurer. I hope it works out for you.” Instead — in a seemingly sarcastic, antagonist tone — they said, “Why did you even move there?” Emphasizing perhaps that they would’ve chosen a different place. Well, too bad! This is what I chose and this is what makes me happy right now, I thought.
This invasion, as I see it, prompted me to rethink my relationship to these people, but most importantly it made me think about who really needs to be happy for you in order for you to really be happy in life. You!
So, the point is, as long as YOU are happy with your decisions, you’re GOOD to go! You’re on the right track. Don’t conform to everyone else’s pathetic low standards…or you’ll be quite pathetic, too. Climb mountains, swim seas, or skydive if that is what your heart desires! Cliche, but life can be so short. Go with what makes you happy and screw what everyone else thinks! Go on!
To mark International Women’s Day, the UN has launched “One Woman”—an awesome song about joining forces to improve the life of women around the world and protect their rights and gender equality.
We still have a long way to go, but times are changing. It’s evident. And just today I was thinking how great the last two years have been for women, relatively. Together we’ve achieved a lot of things, such as changes in the health care system (against all odds!) and the implementation of new laws that protect women from abuse.
I am so proud of the women who fight for their rights like lionesses; for those who care for other women. I’m proud of the UN for fighting for us. Proud of all the men who genuinely care!
We’ll always have something to fight for. But hopefully maybe in the near future this whole ridiculousness will be a thing of the past. For now, ¡que vivan las mujeres! Keep shining, ladies.
Not only do I have a problem with religion and what it represents, but I also have a problem with “god” being perceived as a man. At least in my culture they call it “El Señor”? What, a woman couldn’t be the creator? If anything we have already proved that we can create and keep a human in our belly for nine months. Can a man do that? Didn’t think so either!
So many reasons to love the play Wicked, and this song was probably all of it for me.
I’m through accepting limits ’cause someone says they’re so Some things I cannot change But till I try, I’ll never know! Too long I’ve been afraid of Losing love I guess I’ve lost Well, if that’s love, it comes at much too high a cost! I’d sooner buy Defying gravity Kiss me goodbye I’m defying gravity I think I’ll try defying gravity And you can’t pull me down.
In this case, the media. Indeed. I just recently watched the film Miss Representation and I think everybody; young women and men, especially in America where we are all so obsessed with “beauty,” should try watching this documentary. It’s about the under-representation of women by mainstream media. It’s eye-opening, a genuine wake-up call, it’s a (not so new but revamped) women’s movement that I definitely endorse (I also talked about it here).
This is for my girls all around the world who have come across a man who don’t respect your worth thinking all women should be seen not heard so what do we do girls? Shout louder!
Here is something I just can’t understand If a guy has three girls then he’s the man. He can even give us some head and sex her off If a girl do the same then she’s a whore. But the table’s about to turn I’ll bet my fame on it Cats take my idea and put their name on it It’s aiight though, you can’t hold me down I got to keep on movin’!
